About MOMENT
Unique Retail Activation Powered by Creative Small Businesses
MOMENT captures the nature of ephemeral retail activations, where speed, urgency and immediacy coalesce with creativity and commerce to produce a destination.
MOMENT taps into the ever-growing creative small business movement has captivated cities across the country and around the world, furthering the mission of helping creative small businesses grow their business with brick-and-mortar stores in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
Supported by a Knight Foundation Grant, MOMENT first emerged in 2018 from San José Made’s MOMENT San Pedro Square micro-retail project, where 14 parking spaces in a downtown San José parking garage were transformed into four micro-retail storefronts (ranging from 250 sq. ft. to 350 sq. ft. in size)—perfect for providing local creative small businesses with their first physical storefront.
In 2022, in addition to its downtown San José project, MOMENT launched a “four-in-one” retail project in San José Japantown, in which four dynamic micro-retail spaces share one large retail storefront footprint.
In 2023, MOMENT was formally established as its own standalone company, acting as the pop-up retail branch of the parent company, Moveable.
In 2024, MOMENT collaborated with the San José Downtown Association and City of San José to bring over 15 creative small businesses across four storefronts in downtown San José, bringing vital retail activation to long neglected or vacant properties.
As of 2025, MOMENT currently works with over 19 creative small businesses, with current plans to expand into the East Bay and across the South Bay Area.
In short, we are continually thinking of creative ways to support creative small businesses!
We do pop-up retail. We do small curated markets. We have our own dynamically programmed micro-retail storefronts and we're looking to grow the micro-retail movement for small businesses throughout the Bay Area. We create social media campaigns celebrating small businesses. We help community creatives create for their community.
Why the name “MOMENT”
We found the name MOMENT to perfectly suit our vision for the ethos and ambition of these four retail spaces, as "MOMENT" in one simple incisive utterance connotes and encapsulates so many different things we're trying to achieve.
For the amazing creative tenants who'll reside in MOMENT, we believe MOMENT could represent one of the biggest landmarks of growth in your business and brand's story. This is what you have been working on for so long, and now here's this ample and wildly visible space to express not only your work, not only your brand but the best and boldest version of yourself.
We love how "MOMENT" represents our unwavering belief in ephemeral retail activations, where speed, urgency and immediacy coalesce with creativity and commerce to produce a destination demanding to be experienced.
For the city and people for whom we do all this, "MOMENT" conveys this vast and pervasive feeling that we, as a city and as a people, are facing significant questions, challenges, and most importantly opportunities—all moments if you will—that'll end up defining the city's narrative over the next several decades.
